It looks silly when people brag about how much they know. Showing off knowledge makes humans look like street performers. But when people who know a lot get together and talk casually about what we know, that is a fine thing. That is what Edge was: the smartest, most insightful salon on the web, and I still think it is worth a visit now and then.

The trouble is its founder. John Brockman was closely tied to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender. That does not erase the conversations. But it changes how I read the guest list.
