Science is the rigorous, systematic endeavor that builds and organizes knowledge as testable explanations and predictions about the world. Honest adherence to it leads to better decisions, more accurate beliefs, and more room for human flourishing, and beliefs grounded in evidence protect health, safety, and well-being. It is the most important mental tool humanity has. Science is good.
The list of scientific occupations is long, but the boundaries between disciplines are mostly formalities kept for organizing universities and institutions. What matters is not the field but the contribution each one yields, and the community knows how interconnected the work is.
Science does not come easily to humans. Many of us were lucky to be born where it is taught as part of a normal education, and even there scientific literacy is a struggle to promote. Our natural inclination is to trust our own intuitions and what our groups tell us. That predisposition helped us survive, so it is not a flaw, but it has limits, especially in a world that science itself keeps modernizing. That is why I treat pseudoscience as a live threat rather than a curiosity.
